250 km. This number describes the Kaunertal hiking region and Kaunergrat Nature Park in distance times kilometres. We have selected three of our favourite Weisseespitze tours for our readers and have made sure that they include something for every taste and fitness level.

1 HIKE TO THE VERPEIL HUT. 2,025 m

An alltime classic that has delighted every hiker so far: The tour to the Verpeil Hut leads through a mountain world that could not be more authentic if it tried, and ends in an idyllic mountain valley above the Kaunertal. Once hikers reach the summit, they can relax in hammocks and on lounge benches and kick back, eye to eye with the mountain giant. Ambitious hikers can use the hut as a starting point for challenging tours in Kaunergrat Nature Park that take either one or several days.

From Feichten, hikers can reach the hut in 2 to 3 hours on foot, via the path or Forststraße. The Verpeilalm can be reached by car, from there it takes 45 minutes to reach the hut via the path or Forststraße.

2 GALLRUTH TUNNEL HIKE

A 990 metre long passage through the mystical Gallruth irrigation tunnel is the highlight of this circular hike. For centuries, the tunnel has provided the grassy hillsides on the sunny side of the mountain with fresh spring water. Outside the tunnel, the hike leads uphill through beautiful larch copses to the cosy Gallruthalm, where a traditional alpine snack awaits hungry hikers. From there, the tour continues on a panaroma trail along the edge of the forest to the Falkaunsalm, where this circular route closes with a hearty snack of home-made mountain cheese.

3 MADATSCHKOPF SUMMIT HIKE

A beautiful summit hike along the impressive Kaunergrat. The hike leads from the Verpeil Hut on well-surfaced paths towards the Mooskopf and Madatschkopf. The path forks by the bench next to the large cairn. The left path leads uphill to the Madatschkopf summit at 2,738 metres. Variant: If you would like to add a second summit to your hike, continue along the unsignposted path next to the cairn, which leads to the Mooskopf (2,532 metres) and is easily reached, as the difference in altitude is a mere 100 metres.
