A miracle in eternal ice
PURE EMOTIONS ON YOUR HOLIDAY NEAR THE KAUNERTAL GLACIER
MOUNTAINS CLOSE ENOUGH TO TOUCH
Glacial summer time
At 3,000 metres above sea level, the glacier is a welcome respite from the heat in the summer time and offers more than just a breath of fresh, pleasantly cool air. On the way up, you will pass the radiant, turquoise Gespatsch reservoir, the Gespatschhaus, Austria’s oldest alpine hut, climbing gardens and spectacular hiking trails.
SNOW GUARANTEED & FUN ON THE SLOPES
Winter without limits
In winter, a ski area with wide natural snow slopes awaits at the end of the glacier road – plenty of snow guaranteed. The slopes lead across terrain that is covered in deep snow for many months, between glacial ice and crags. The Weisseespitze, the highest mountain in the Kaunertal, rises high above them all. Ideal for freeriders and skitouring.
THE WINDING GLACIER ROAD
The one and only “glacier road”
26 kilometres, 29 bends, 1,500 metres difference in altitude. This is the key data of “Tyrol’s road to the eternal ice”. The ascent alone is a sight for sore eyes – a “soulful drive” from the hotel in the truest sense of the words.
Whether you travel by motorbike, bicycle, car or postbus, you will come across numerous outlooks and miracles of nature on your way. The Weisssee restaurant and children’s playground are situated near the car park at 2,750 metres, along with Austria’s highest postbus stop. From here, ski lifts and trains take over to carry visitors to the top.
NEW FROM AUTUMN 2019:
From autumn onwards, Austria’s first funifor cable car for 100 passengers will take you to the top of the glacial ski area, situated 3,113 metres above sea level. This innovative ropeway system only has two track ropes and starts directly next to the car park located by the glacier restaurant. Between the valley and summit stations lie 1,500 metres of open span field. A suspended highlight that is extremely wind-resistant at the same time. And the best: 100 % accessible! More infos here.
